This action research project used a mixed method approach. Both quantitative and qualitative methods will play equal parts in the analysis of data. This study uses both quantitative and qualitative methods of research in order to analyze the data of a single person and a group of people. Collecting both quantitative and qualitative data will show numerical data and visual data.
Quantitative data will be collected from a FITNESSGRAM pre and posttest as well as from the student survey and from sections of the teacher pre and post study surveys. Qualitative data will also be collected from a section of the teacher pre and post study survey and the teacher observation form.
Participant:
For this research, the gatekeeper is the principal of the school where the research will be conducted and the parents of the students who are being asked to be in the study. The principal and the parents are the people who decide whether or not the researcher is able to conduct the study. There are twenty students in this fifth grade class and one teacher. Five students from the fifth grade will be participating in this study. The fifth grade teacher plays an important role in this study and will be surveyed in order to gain information on the student’s behavior and ability to focus during instruction.
The students are between ten and twelve years of age and are both male and female. The students come from various ethnic and racial backgrounds. The fifth grade teacher has four years of experience and considered to be middle class and Caucasian.
