From the educational articles, websites and action research study conducted it is clear that there is no reason our school systems should not be allowing our students to be physically active during a school day. The research only shows positive correlations between physical activity and student's test scores, behavior, attention and health. There is no evidence stating that time spent away from the classroom and in a physical education setting will lower student test scores. All of the results lead to physical activity being a positive affect on student’s behavior and attention, cognitive test scores and health.
It is scary to think that some schools are doing away with physical education and physical activity time to make more time for core classes. This will not better scores, allow for better behavior, enhance student attention or cause students to be able to better retain the information they are learning. By allowing students time during the day to be physically active permits for them to rest the cognitive part of their brain so that when they return to class they can refocus and gain more knowledge. Educational researchers are starting to understand the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and they have begun to understand how precious and important the lives of our students are. An educated person can do nothing to better our world if they are too unhealthy to share their knowledge.
