Possible threats dealing with the participants of this study include how much physical activity the students participate in after school, how motivated the students are during physical education classes, how motivated the students are during recess and how much physical movement is done while in the classroom. In order to counteract these threats I will try and raise student motivation levels while with me in the physical education setting by providing different kinds of activities for different students likes. I will try and give students ideas of physical activities to do while at recess and I will ask teachers to limit their physical movement activities within the classroom during those two weeks when the students are not receiving physical education. If no parents agree to the removal of physical education from their students schedule for the two week period of time I will change my sample group to another grade within the school.
Other threats that could arise with this study include issues with data collection tools. I have personally made the surveys and behavior charts hoping this will eliminate any possible issues. One issue could be the student’s ability to read the survey. I have made the survey age appropriate but some students may not be reading on a fifth grade reading level. I will counteract this limitation by reading the survey to the students so that they are able to answer the questions.
Finally, potential problems with the studies research procedure include the length of the study. This study is only two weeks long, which is a very quick amount of time to show a significant amount of change in student’s physical fitness levels and student’s behavior and attention levels. In order to counteract this potential problem I will try and make the student’s physical education and activity time period as physical demanding and age appropriate as possible. As far as behavior issues, I will try and get the classroom teacher to be as specific as possible with her descriptions of her student’s behavior and attention during instruction.
